This week: imaginary adventures, law abiding citizens, and dangerous stepfathers.

  • Where The Wild Things Are. Genre: Family/Fantasy/Adaptation. When a young boy named Max is sent to his room without supper, he imagines a magical land where strange and exciting creatures make him their king. PG for mild thematic elements, some adventure action and brief language.
  • Law Abiding Citizen. Genre: Action/Crime. Starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler. When he is placed in jail, a criminal (Butler) sets out for revenge and eventually places a city in turmoil. R for strong bloody brutal violence and torture, a scene of rape and pervasive language.
  • The Stepfather. Genre: Thriller/Suspense. A young man returns home from military school to find that his mother has fallen in love with a man named David. But pretty soon, he discovers that David is hiding a dark past. Is he really the man he says he is? PG-13 for intense sequences of violence, disturbing images, mature thematic material and brief sensuality.
Those are all the movies for this week. Here are their websites.
